Child safety standards
Last updated: 17 July 2026
Zero tolerance
Ember has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM). We prohibit it in every part of the service, we act on every credible report, and we co-operate fully with law enforcement. These standards apply to everyone who uses Ember and to every venue that partners with us.
Ember is for adults only
Ember is an 18+ service. Before anyone can do anything else, we ask for a date of birth and refuse entry to anyone under 18. If a declared date of birth is under 18 we keep an anonymous marker so the same sign-in cannot simply try again until the day that person turns 18. We apply this adults-only (18+) rating and these standards on every store that carries the app, including Google Play and the Apple App Store. On Google Play we have additionally asked the store to restrict users it determines to be minors from downloading it. The date-of-birth check runs inside the app on every platform, including the web, so the 18+ rule holds however someone reaches Ember.
What is prohibited
Any content or conduct that sexualises, endangers, or exploits a child is strictly forbidden, including CSAM in any form, grooming or solicitation of a minor, and any attempt to use Ember to contact or harm a child. Accounts involved are removed immediately and permanently.
How to report a concern
In the app, open any profile and use Report & block to flag a user; this removes them from your night and sends the report to us to act on.
For anything involving a child’s safety, or to reach us outside the app, email [email protected]. Child safety reports are treated as urgent and prioritised above all other correspondence.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
How we respond
We review reports of CSAE promptly. Where a report is credible we remove the content and terminate the accounts involved, preserve the relevant evidence, and report to the appropriate authorities, such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and, in the United Kingdom, the National Crime Agency and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), as the law requires. We comply with all applicable regional and national child safety laws.
Our designated contact
Our point of contact for child safety matters can be reached at [email protected] and is able to answer questions about our CSAE prevention practices and compliance.
